Marine Safety

With over 40 years of experience in the diving industry, KG Yip is a leading figure in the scuba diving community. As the current President of the Singapore Underwater Federation (SUF), KG Yip has dedicated much of his career to promoting diving safety, training, and education. His extensive background includes teaching and certifying scuba divers and instructors, ensuring that divers are equipped with the necessary skills to safely explore underwater environments.

Before taking on the role at SUF, KG Yip was an Instructor Evaluator with Scuba Schools International (SSI) and later transitioned to the role of Course Director at the World Underwater Federation. Recently, he expanded his influence in the diving world by assuming the position of Training Partner with the International Technical Diving Agency (ITDA).

 

A staunch advocate for safety, KG Yip furthered his expertise by completing an Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety and Health in 2017. This training has been invaluable in ensuring that diving practices remain safe and compliant with industry standards.

In 2020, KG Yip played an integral role in the development of the Singapore Standard Code of Conduct (COP) for Inland and Open Water Sporting Activities (SS701:2023), representing SUF as a member of the Working Group that helped draft the safety guidelines. This document is now a critical reference for all water sports engaging in open water activities in Singapore.

 

Today, KG Yip is committed to sharing his knowledge and insights about SS701:2023 with the broader diving community, ensuring that diving enthusiasts understand the significance of these safety standards and continue to practice the sport responsibly.
